Latvijas arhitektūras kalendāru atklāšana

Jaunā dizaina centrā atvērs Latvijas arhitektūras kalendārus

Piektdien, 2012. gada 2. novembrī xcelsior dizaina centrā Rīgā, Raņķa dambī 1 tiks atvērti divi Latvijas arhitektūras un interjera kalendāri 2013. gadam.

Kalendāros ir publicēti spilgti mazās arhitektūras darbi – dzīvokļu interjeri, mājas pie jūras, villas, biroji un viesnīcas. To autori ir Andris Kronbergs, Arnis Kleinbergs, Zaiga Gaile, Mārtiņš Pīlēns, Juris Mitenbergs, Andra Šmite, Liene Griezīte, Agnese Putna, Sintija Vaivade, Ingūna un Holgers Eleri, Andis Sīlis, Brigita Bula, Uldis Lukševics, Reinis Liepiņš, Zane Tetere, Pēteris Blūms un viņu kolēģi projektēšanas birojos.

Atvēršanas laikā varēs iepazīties arī ar jaunu vietu Rīgā – xcelsior dizaina centru, kas šogad atklāts atjaunotā arhitektūras piemineklī – pēc ievērojamā Rīgas pilsētas arhitekta Reinholda Šmēlinga projekta celtā pamatskolā.

1911. gadā uzbūvētā skolas ēka ir brīnišķīgs pamesta Pārdaugavas stūra atdzimšanas piemērs netālu no topošās Latvijas Nacionālās bibliotēkas, kur tagad ikvienam ir atvērtas plašās halles un mācību telpas ar modernisma klasikas un mūsdienu dizaina ekspozīcijām, izstāžu zāli un dizaina bibliotēku. Dizaina centrs ir iekārtots arhitekta, xcelsior vadītāja Artūra Martinsona vadībā.

Abi kalendāri turpina laikmetīgās arhitektūras popularizēšanas izdevumu sēriju Process un ar Lukabuka zīmolu piedāvā tā kompaktu eksporta versiju angļu valodā. Kalendāru saturu veidojusi Ieva Zībārte, dizaina autori ir H2E.

Piektdien, 19. oktobrī xcelsior dizaina centrā notika pirmās prezentācijas no sērijas 'Iedvesmas pilsētas'. Apmeklētājiem bija iespēja dzirdēt stāstus par Venēciju no Other Side Studio komandas pārstāvjiem, kā arī to, kuras pilsētas uzrunā Pēteri Bajāru.

Xcelsior plāno šīs prezentācijas organizēt regulāri, nodrošinot radošu vidi arhitektūras un dizaina speciālistiem un entuziastiem.

On Friday the 19th of October the xcelsior design centre hosted the first presentations of the series 'Cities of Inspiration'. Our guests had a chance to hear stories about Venice from the representatives of the Other Side Studio team, as well as which cities seem most appealing to Pēteris Bajārs.

Xcelsior is planning to organize these presentations on a regular basis by providing a creative environment for the specialists and enthusiasts of the architecture and design field.

We invite you to the event Cities of inspiration - on the 19th of October, at 17:00 in the xcelsior design center at Raņķa dambis 1.

Xcelsior offers a chance to create an ode to a city - Riga, Venice, Paris, Liepāja, New York or Saulkrasti. Any city can be a source of inspiration and any source of inspiration can serve to help the city's architecture, style, planning and soul. The event of 19th October will begin the series of Cities of Inspiration presentations, during which architects, designers, academics and enthusiasts will have the opportunity to get acquianted with the characteristics of architecture in different cities, take part in discussions and, of course, get inspired for future projects.

The event will be opened by the Other Side Studio team that will share their experience and impressions about the Venice Biennal and after the presentations it will be possible to ask questions, join discussions and also see the exhibition Cities for All, organized by the Design Information Centre and brought to Riga from Helsinki.

The aim of the event of 19th of October is to start off a series of Cities of Inspiration seminars that will welcome the specialists and enthusiasts of the field to present and take part in them. Visit us and reserve a spot for the next seminar!

Tikai piecas dienas, no 15. līdz 19. oktobrim, Rīgā skatāma izstāde Cities for All (Pilsētas visiem). Ekspozīcijā redzēsim nozīmīgus Design for All (dizains visiem) piemērus un procesus no visas Eiropas, ilustrējot veidu kā radīt labāku vidi visiem – sniegt pievienoto vērtību sabiedrībai, uzņēmējdarbībai, valsts pārvaldei, izmantojot dizainu un stratēģisko dizaina domāšanu.

Izstāde Cities for All (Pilsētas visiem) īpaši veidota „Helsinki Pasaules Dizaina galvaspilsēta 2012” programmai un pirmo reizi eksponēta 2012. gada maijā Helsinkos.

Šobrīd tā apceļo Eiropu un Latvijā skatāma arhitektūras un dizaina studijas xcelsior jaunā dizaina centra izstāžu zālē, Raņķa dambī 1, Rīgā.

Design for All procesi rada pievienoto vērtību, veidojot labāku pilsētu visiem. Kā izmantot stratēģisko dizainu un dizaina domāšanu, lai sasniegtu kompleksus risinājumus un risinātu sabiedrībai nozīmīgus izaicinājumus gan valsts pārvaldes lēmumu pieņemšanas procesos, gan ikdienā? Cities for All

Only five days, from the 15th to 19th October, the exhibition Cities for All will be visible in Riga. Exhibition features important Design for All examples and processes from all over Europe, ilustrating ways to create a better environment for all - to ensure added value for society, businesses, government by using design and strategical design thinking.

Exhibition Cities for All is created specifically for the World Design Capital Helsinki 2012 programme and was exhibited for the first time in May 2012 in Helsinki.

Now it is travelling around Europe and in Latvia it will be visible in the exhibition hall of the xcelsior architecture and design studio's new design centre in Raņķa dambis 1, Riga. 

Design for All processes create added value, shaping a better city for all. How to use strategical design and design thinking to achieve complex solutions and solve challenges that are important for society both in making state government decisions and in everyday life? Good design creates a harmonious way of life, we notice only the mistakes. This approach can be used also for services: what works is well designed and simple. Examples of service design with focus on social inclusion invite a discussion about information and possibilities of communication design: how to achieve a better graphic design in everyday life that truly attests itself in action?

By doing the right things right with design excellence and user friendly solutions, companies can attain good reputation, achieve long lasting sources of income, ensure new markets and, of course, gain happy, devoted clients. Design for All thinking allows to create completely new strategies for business and product innovations. Added value comes from different possibilities if we talk about both environment and social systems: stimulus for cooperation and union, innovative space solutions in different environments, creation of mentally new wellfare in a well-equipped public space, decreasing of costs of services and planning and creation of infrastructure. 

The exhibition will be open from 15th to 19th of October, every day from 10:00 to 19:00 in the design centre of architecture and design studio xcelsior in Raņķa dambis 1, Riga.

Ronan & Erwan Bouroullec: Works

Works is a comprehensive monograph that explores the work of Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec by theme, including the designers’ collaborations with leading brands and manufacturers, covering everything from furniture design to lighting and limited edition pieces. Stunning photograps, hand-selected by the Bouroullecs, sit alongside a wealth of previously unpublished images and drawings from the designers’ archives, and are accompanied by supoorting texts from design specialist Anniina Koivu.

The monograph also features an exclusive interview between Rolf Fehlbaum from Vitra, Anders Byriel from Kvadrat, Eugenio Perazza from Magis, Didier Krzentowski from Galerie kreo and design critic Alice Rawthorn, as well as a catalogue section documenting the designers’ entire career to date. Works is the most authorative title on the work of these two prolific, innovative and dynamic product designers.

A lepidopterist takes great pleasure in the hunting, catching and – most of all – collecting of butterflies. The rarest, most precious individuals are gently handled, put to sleep with anaesthetic and inspected closely under the magnifying glass before being archived, labelled, sometimes baptized with a new name and finally pinned to the wall. A pathologist dissects a creature in the name of medical truth. Once the lifeless body has given up its secrets, it is handed over to a taxidermist, who in turn preps the embalmed specimen for its new role, as a trophy to be admired or an archetype for public observation in a museum of history or natural science. The designs of Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec bring to mind the lightness and delicacy of butterflies. Powerful and expressive, yet magically detached from the received ideas of functional everyday objects, their designs manage to embody a kind of freedom in a way that makes them hard to pin down.

Even if, butterfly net in hand, we could capture the essence of their work, take it home in a glass jar and mount it on the wall, we wouldn’t want to. While we certainly hope to present the Bouroullec brothers’ work in a concrete, durable manner, the authors of this book are not lepidopterists. Nor are they pathologists or students of the art of taxidermy. Our desire to communicate is not an attempt to state the truth by pinning design to the wall. This book is neither a complete archive nor a manifesto. It is not meant as a manual for aspiring designers, nor as a hunter’s trophy. In the following pages, we are not the hunters but the observers of design, and will strive to find a path – one that meanders along comfortably, somewhere between the realms of fact and fiction. It is a snapshot in the continuously changing and evolving career of two of the most talked about designers of our day: Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec.

Louis Kahn - The Power of Architecture

Amerikāņu arhitekts Louis Kahn (1901.-1974) tiek uzskatīts par vienu no 20. gadsimta būvniecības lielākajiem meistariem. Ar sarežģītām telpiskām kompzīcijām, stihisku formālo leksiku un horeogrāfisku gaismas izmantošanu, Kahn radīja arhaiski skaistas ēkas un spēcīgu, universālu simbolismu.

Viņa slavenāko darbu vidū ir Salk institūts La Jolla, Kalifornijā (1959.-1965.), Kimbell mākslas muzejs Fort Worth, Teksasā (1966.-1972.), Indijas Menedžmenta institūts Ahmedabadā (1962.-1974.) un Nacionālās Asamblejas ēka Dakā, Bangladešā (1962.-1983.). The Power of Architecture kā divdesmit gadu laikā pirmā, visaptverošā publikācija par Louis Kahn demonstrē visus viņa svarīgākos projektus. The American architect Louis Kahn (1901-1974) is regarded as one of the great master builders of the twentieth century. With complex spatial compositions, an elemental formal vocabulary and a choreographic mastery of light, Kahn created buildings of archaic beauty and powerful universal symbolism.

Numbering among his most important works are the Salk Institute in La Jolla, California (1959- 65), the Kimbell Art Museum in Fort Worth, Texas (1966-72), the Indian Institute of Management in Ahmedabad (1962-74) and the National Assembly Building in Dhaka, Bangladesh (1962-83). As the first comprehensive publication on this architect in twenty years, the book Louis Kahn – The Power of Architecture presents all of his important projects. In scholarly essays by prominent experts on Kahn, the inspirational sources, contextual background and influences of his work are discussed, reflecting the current status of research on this subject.

Among the authors are such renowned art and architectural historians as Stanislaus von Moos, William J. R. Curtis, Eeva-Liisa Pelkonen and Neil Levine. The topics include Kahn’s pioneering role in concrete construction, the visionary urban plans for his home city of Philadelphia, his years at Yale University, the exchange of ideas with Josef Albers, and his importance for modern architecture in Southeast Asia.

 An expansive illustrated biography provides many new facts and insights about the life and work of Louis Kahn. In interviews, leading architects such as Frank Gehry, Renzo Piano, Peter Zumthor and Sou Fujimoto emphasize Kahn’s significance in today’s architectural discourse. An extensive catalogue of works features original drawings and architectural models from the Kahn archive, many of which are presented with highquality images for the first time.

The compendium is further augmented by a portfolio of Kahn’s travel drawings as well as photographs by Thomas Florschuetz, which offer completely new views of the

Salk Institute and the Indian Institute of Management.

This month Vitra Design Museum introduces a new volume-exhibition catalogue dedicated to Pop Art – Pop Art Design! 

Kā visietekmīgais mākslas novirziens kopš 1945. gada, popārts līdz pat mūsdienām turpina veidot mūsu vizuālo kultūru. Šībrīža izdevumā, kas sastādīts komplektācijā ar tāda paša nosaukuma izstādi, pirmoreiz tiek īpaši izpētīts veidotais mākslas dialogs ar dizainu.
